27

As the decade nears its end, and a new age met me on the horizon, I feel a need to reflect on what I’ve learnt in this life thus far. For obvious reasons, I have gone with the number 27 and will share a list of 27 things I’ve learnt and insights I have gained in life.

1. Pay attention to the signs
The universe will give you numerous signs life. Signs about people, jobs and places. Pay attention.

2. Sleep
Working hard is good but when the benefits do not positively impact your mental wellbeing, sleep. Wake up fresh, and think about what you are doing.

3. Plan
For me, having a plan is fundamental. Whilst we cannot always stick to it, having allows us to better assess a situation in times of change and challenge

4. Say NO
Sometimes, the only answer there is to give is NO. However, for whatever reason, a lot of us find the people pleaser within and yes when we really should not. Saying no, is not rude. It is assertive, shows a self awareness of your boundaries and is fundamental for your mental health and self care.

5. Don’t Settle
Know your worth, and then add some.

6. Manipulation can be disguised as charm.
Snakes still slither in grass.

7. When people show you their true colours ….
….BELIEVE THEM

8. Emotional Intelligence is not Universal
Sometimes people just won’t get it, so it’s best to leave them where they’re at.

9. It’s not always a lie, it’s their version of the truth.

10. Someone may be a good person but it doesn’t mean they’re good for you.

11. NO…
Is a full sentence and doesn’t always require and explanation.

12. Do Not Make Major Decisons off an impulse.

It’s best to stop, pause and reflect.

13. Give more attention to your wins and accomplishments than your Ls.
Sometimes we can be too too hard on ourselves.

14. Cancelling plans…
… is an underrated form of self care.

15. SLEEP
Cannot stress the importance of this act enough.

16. Put Social Media on Snooooze
Take a break from social media and focus on reality.

17. Being unhappy is enough for you to decide, “This isnt working”.
Whether it’s a job or relationship, your happiness is important.

18. Hydration
Drink More Water. I’m still working on this but it is fundamental for your daily function.

19. Don’t skip meals
I am well known for skipping breakfast most, if not every, morning. But do as I say, not as I do. Try to eat consistently throughout the day and keep your energy up.

20. Treat yourself
I said it, TREAT YO SELF!

21. Meditate
Now, this doesnt mean you have to chant out loud, hum or play any specific type of music. Instead, focus on the act of being still, focusing your mind and your energy. I really think whatever it is you are thinking about in those moments will manifest.

22. People can hear you but it doesnt necessarily mean they’re listening.

23. You do not need anyone’s permission to live your life.

24. Do Not Overwork yourself.
Have days or evenings where the focus is on you. Rest, relax, recuperate. Give yourself some time and attention.

25. The Three Hobbies
This is something that has been floating around on social media for a while, and I think it holds some truth. Find three hobbies: one that makes you money, one that keeps you fit and one that allows you to be creative.

26. Don’t Show Up
There’s a rhetoric ons social media that people should get up and show up, even when they are not feeling. My advice? Don’t show up. Put your needs and self-care first, and if that means staying at home, STAY THE HELL AT HOME!

27. Self Love over E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G

Honestly, if you love yourself wholly and unconditionally, with highest expectations and belief, there is nothing you cannot do. There is nothing you will allow or accept that is harmful to yourself. People’s words against you will not allow you to accept maltreatment from others.
